Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends on the source. A WAV file shrinks by roughly 90 percent at 96 kbps; a 320 kbps MP3 shrinks by 70 percent; a file that is already at 96 kbps barely changes.
Does compression lose quality?
Yes, a little: lower bitrates discard the least audible detail first. For speech, 64 to 96 kbps is hard to tell from the original; for music, stay at 128 kbps.
Is compressing private?
Yes. The encoding happens entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.
